Getting involved with the tourism safari industry gives Shirli the opportunity to Travel Host overseas tourists on trips through Africa, including the Serengeti and Masai Mara. Her travels have taken her Gorilla trekking in the Volcans jungle of Rwanda, micro-lighting over South Luangwa in Zambia, shivering in her small tent with Lions in the Kalahari in Botswana and countless thrilling adventures which inspires and feeds her storytelling.

Shirli has learnt an enormous amount on wildlife, how Lion prides differ according to their habitats from one park to another, or Elephant breeding herds respond in different areas. She has written a travel-educational article on the Great Migration in Tanzania and Kenya to dispel some misconceptions she feels potential visitors are not aware of. Nature is all designed perfectly and intricately to form a biodiversity which is complex, delicate and globally important. Everything has a story and a purpose.

“In wildlife and conservation, there is a shift of perception needed, one that comes with a narrative of storytelling, interesting anecdotes through the bush-culture of safaris. Open discussion on conservation issues here in Africa, which in reality touches everyone globally. An integral part of taking an interest in wildlife is an understanding of its family and social bonds, the characteristics and how that creature fits seamlessly into the landscape. These are the types of features I want to impart, a ‘mindfulness’ through our senses; listening carefully, smelling, tasting the air, feeling the moment and observing how it looks and moves – in my photography I try to convey and share these senses. I want the visitor to leave with a special experience that they would never forget, with a love in their hearts for Africa..as I have”.
